Do I need JTAG for my RDK-IDM

Hi there,

I am a newbie who recently purchased RDK-IDM for my class project. I tried follow the quick start but no success in loading the example code "hello world" into my board via the CAT5 ethernet line.

Therefore I would like to ask that in order to load the code into my RDK-IDM, Can I load via ethernet and if so how to do it properly? or Do I need to purchase the JTAG-USB cable to do the job?

Many thanks,
newbie

Re:Do I need JTAG for my RDK-IDM

Can you provide more details on what does not work when you attempt to load the hello world example? Also, what happens if you type "**" on the keypad of the application that was loaded on the board that you received?

I seem to be having the same problem. When I type "**", nothing happens. What would you expect this to do?

Re:Do I need JTAG for my RDK-IDM

If you have a development board all you need is a 20-pin to 10 pin jtag adapter.

Its a simple adapter to make.

Re:Do I need JTAG for my RDK-IDM

The User's Manual included on the CD which came with your kit has a section titled "Programming the IDM". The newer IDM firmware includes an Ethernet boot loader which allows you to update/change the application over Ethernet. The older IDM firmware did not provide the boot loader and therefore the JTAG port has to be used for programming. The availability of programming over Ethernet for your kit will be reflected in the "Programming the IDM" section.
