Problems with Dev boards -> dead

I purchased both an IDM-SBC and an EKI-LM3S9B92 from Newark last week and am having several problems.

1) The EKI-LM3S9B92 has completely died. I didn't hook anything up to it besides the included FTDI LMI programmer. I have added no connections whatsoever to external components besides the usb cable. I ran several examples successfully but it just died somehow. U2 now gets VERY hot everytime I plug in either the LMI programmer or the

2) I only had the IDM-SBC previously and programmed with my regular JTAG but I was anxious to use the UART but it appears I got a Rev A board and the UART doesn't work with the ICDI.

Questions:
1) Can I get a newer rev of the IDM-SBC that has the UART pins connected correctly? If it were standard .100" headers then I would just use my own RS232 cable but instead it's the tiny TI connector standard.

2) Has anyone else had boards/chips completely die on them with normal use? This EKI death is extremely troublesome for my end product if I need to recall 10,000 units.

3) Does TI have any rev C0 chips on eval kits available. I think if I return these kits to Newark they're just going to send me the same rev one back.

I assumed all the bugs were worked out but apparently the suppliers must still have a lot of old stock.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with these two boards. I'll have to check with the board guys tomorrow regarding a couple of your questions. As you note, rev A of the IDM-SBC has the UART TX and RX lines transposed. This is fixed in rev B but I'll have to check to see if this is in production yet.

All current 9b92-based boards are shipping with revision B1 silicon which has various important errata which can affect use of the board. That said, the worst I have seen is that you may occasionally need to reflash a binary. There are also some errata related to the order in which cables must (or must not) be connected. I assume you have read these already but, if not, the current chip errata can be found here.

I'll append some more information tomorrow once I get in touch with the folks with the answers.

Sorry for the delay - I'm still trying to determine whether IDM-SBC rev B has made it into production yet.

As regards returning faulty units, this should be handled via the TI Product Information Center. You can contact them via the relevant support link for your geographical region on this page.

I fixed the audio problem on my IDM-SBC.

It turns out that the red/black were connected to pins 2/3 instead of 5/6.

The connector is keyed and there's no way this was possible to connect out of the box.

I performed micro surgery using a dental pick under a stereo microscope and popped the pins out of and put them in the correct holes according to the schematic.

Works ok now but pins are loose inside the connector. Can I get a new speaker with the pins wired correctly without RMAing the entire board as it seems hard to get. You might want to check your stock and check if the speakers are miswired.

UART still not working. If only that was possible to pop pins out and replace...

I've passed your speaker note on to our production folks and asked them to check the wiring - thanks for the heads-up!

On the question of getting a new speaker, you will, once again, have to go through the support folks at the Product Information Center to ask about this.
