Hi Dave,

Thank you for a most helpful and valued reply. My team did "try" to massage >16 bits and met with only partial success. Can't blame the chip - but we "need" - like you/others - to efficiently "talk/control" the slew of powerful new devices which require >16bit SPI. Firms like mine MUST discover/master -> employ these new devices so that we can "out-feature" old guard...

Further - wonder if the earlier 48 pin LMI devices behave differently than newer 64 and 100 pin ones?

As regards your use of Freescale/Mot SSI Mode - we "rejected" those as the formats required too much "glue" to "hook" to our target SPI devices. Your kind post will cause me to re-visit - again thank you and I I/others are in your debt. Clearly >16 bit format support far outweighs "glue" - especially as CPLD price war (EE Times) drives down CPLD cost/power.

FYI - I'm ex east-coaster and had early engineering job @ Sprague (pre-Allegro).
If only we had LMI chips then...
