OLED Display Trouble

Hey,

Just got my kit yesterday - seems like a cool board!

Though I had a problem with my OLED display. It won't work unless you press down on it. I solved the problem by hot-gluing it down to provide a bit of pressure.

Has anyone else seen this out of interest?

Regards,

-Colin

Re:OLED Display Trouble

Colin,

We've noticed that some of the solder connections on the OLED's ribbon cable have loosened a bit after leaving the factory - that is the root cause of your problem. By pushing down on the display, the loose solder joint on the ribbon cable makes contact with the pad and starts working.

If you would like a replacement, we can do that. If you bought your EKK-LM3S811 from a distributor, please contact the distributor to get an RMA number and they'll replace your kit as quickly as possible.

If you received your EKK-LM3S811 from Circuit Cellar as part of the design contest, please contact Luminary Micro's customer service at customer.service@luminarymicro.com for an RMA number, and we'll replace your kit as quickly as possible.

Re:OLED Display Trouble

Hello,

I got it as part of the CC contest... and pushing down has worked well enough, so I'd rather see the extra kits go to other people!

Thanks,

-Colin

Re:OLED Display Trouble

I have display issues also, only pressing down does not seem to fix the problem. It is totally blank and has yet to display anything. I downloaded the UART example file to verify the micro was working, the micro seems to work fine. I think either the display cable or controller is dead. I purchased my eval kit from Mouser, so I will contact them for a replacement.

Re:OLED Display Trouble

Got mine fixed. I just touched each of the ribbon cable solder jints for a few seconds with the iron to remelt the solder on the joint. This seem to have resoldered which ever joints were loose, works great now, nice looking display.

Re:OLED Display Trouble

Hello altogether,

I have received my board from Circuit Cellar today and at first it worked perfectly. After installing the windows driver the display get frozen and even after a reset it stays completely dark. Only if I connect it to the USB port, it seems to work shortly. Two or three lines are displayed that it is frozen again. I can see that the UART still works so it seems to be a display problem too. Does someone had a similar experience?

Thank you very much in advance!

Best regards,
