Luminary Micro Stamp Board...

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone was working on a 'Stamp' type board for the Luminary Micro LM3S8962?

I think a board which is basically the CPU with the Ethernet Jack/Magnetics and the required XTALs together with two headers similar to the EVAL boards (but closer together) and a compact JTAG connection would be very useful.

This would allow people to produce low volume applications without the complexity of laying out the sensitive high speed traces and Ethernet...

There seems to be commonality with the Ethernet locations on most chips, so the same PCB may be able to support a range of CPUs.

Thoughts...

Re:Luminary Micro Stamp Board...

Good suggestion - but fraught with peril for the "pioneer." (too often the "leader's" board is copied/reverse engineered - greatly eroding ROI.)

My firm is in talks with several large, existing clients seeking to develop such a small, economical board with additional "optional hooks" such as Lcd or Color TFT, DAC, higher res ADC, mini RS232/CAN level shifter, Ether jack and hw support (op amp) for a wide range of popular sensors.

With a P.O. from a "major" it becomes feasible to offer this to the LMI community @ sub 40 USD, Q1.
(w/o options)

Suggestions/comments welcome...

There's not much to it that isn't already published via the eval board schematics. I'm currently developing an industrial monitoring 'pod' and there are three options:

#1 Single PCB containing all circuitry,
#2 Master CPU PCB with sampling card,
#3 Sampling card/psu with plug in CPU 'stamp'.

Option #1 is too fixed, so I was looking at option #2 but option #3 would allow more future product flexibility as less functionality is fixed by the CPU sub-system.

So I may end up designing the CPU Stamp for my own internal use...

Re:Luminary Micro Stamp Board...

Designing for your "in-house" use is always safest. When you try to "design for the masses" - good luck. (too big/small/dark/light/ too much/too little etc.)

Thus our stance - gain several large "design-wins" - and then offer this product to LMI market.

There is a small Ethernet Module with PoE available from Germany:
