Download fail with Keil and LM3S811

Hi there, I have just received my eval kit and am having fun. I have installed the Keil toolset and drivers (all 3) for the eval board per the quickstart guide. I have the "LM3S811 Evaluation Board A & B" drivers under universal serial bus controllers, and the VCP driver under COM ports. When I plug in the board I get serial comms in a terminal program. I can also compile the "hello" program in the Keil IDE. However, if I try to program the flash the IDE come's back with the error "Error: Flash Download failed - Target DLL has been cancelled". In the build window it shows "Load "G:...hello.AXF"" with the path and filename. I am at a bit of a loss as to how to resove this problem.

I am running under Windows XP with service pack 2. The install CD that came with my kit was marked as REV1.01 - uVision shows itself as V3.33b which when it was installing said V3.03beta. I have already tried uninstalling and re-installing the USB drivers.

Any ideas?

Re:Download fail with Keil and LM3S811

That is exactly what I get on my laptop.

Does anyone know if there is any third party software for programming these boards, that actually works properly ?

Any simple commandline tools etc, that could be ported to linux or mac osx ?

I'll have to see if programming with my jlink debugger is more successful when I'm home.

Frustrating to have a nice board like this with poor drivers.

Re:Download fail with Keil and LM3S811

I've just downloaded and tried the new "lmidk-agdi.dll" as well. Makes no difference.

Re:Download fail with Keil and LM3S811

Hello,

Welcome to the club. I have exactly the same problem but in Win98. According to my tests there is something wrong in communication between Keil IDE and lmidk-agdi.dll. Definitely, it is not the fault of USB drivers. I tested them using FTDI tools as well as USBtoJTAG program (there is such example written in Delphi on FTDI page) and everything works OK.

Re:Download fail with Keil and LM3S811

Hello out there,

just can speak for win98. I got it running with the new 2dxx-drivers from ftdi (after changing the PID/VID).
Look for the win98-thread.
What I've learned from the ftdi-site is that under win98 only 2dxx-drivers OR vcp drivers work - not both together. For programming you need the 2dxx-drivers so to use the uart you have to find some max3232 drivers or equvalents.
I'm using the new lmidk-agdi-driver, but the old one seem to work also.

Hope that helps- if not leave a note here.

Re:Download fail with Keil and LM3S811

Hello,

Thank you for your suggestions. I know this very well. Unfortunately, I still can neither program nor debug EVB board in Win98. From what I observe, Keil IDE doesn't see lmidk-agdi driver. I had opportunity to play with Keil IDE on computer with Windows XP. In this system, after choosing 'LMI Stellaris Debugger' and pressing the key 'Settings', a window appeared with version of LMIDK-AGDI.DLL driver and information that there are no configurable parameters. On the contrary, in my Win98 pressing 'Settings' key causes no action at all.
By the way, it is possible to install in Win98 both USB drivers i.e. 2Dxx and virtual port, but each driver must work with separate device. So 2Dxx driver must work with LMI EVB Board A while virtual port driver must work with LMI EVB Board B. It can be done, as geraldo wrote, by modifying PID/VID values.
