UART voltage

Hi,

does anyone know if the UART on the LM3S811 board does sustain the typical voltages of up to 15 V of another host's RS-232 interface on its RX input?
I could not find this in the datasheet.
Would be nice to know this before throwing myself at building some kind of level converter.

Another question is whether the 3.3 V output can drive a (short) serial connection on the TX pins. If anyone has some experience with that, please let me know.

Thanks, Robin

Re:UART voltage

Hi,

I think most of UART that bundle in the MCU will be TTL/CMOS Output Level. There is no way to communicate with Standard RS-232. You MUST USE THE MAX232 to convert TTL Level to Standard RS-232. Otherwise, you will burn the IC without any sign.

If you use the UART with other mcu with same voltage level, you can use it directory without any driver.

Hilary

Re:UART voltage

Well, that was the kind of hint I was looking for!

Thanks so much!
