What board rev does everyone have?

My board is marked "Rev 1.00"

Problems:

  • I cannot get the QuickStart application to run at all. I get 1 line of dots on the OLED. If I hit reset, the dots disappear and nothing shows.

  • I have gotten the "Hello" app to run exactly 1 time.

  • I have gotten successful build and loads, but that is all.

Any ideas? I received one of the first boards, and I am wondering if my rev # is different thaan other peoples' or if anyone else has had similar issues.

Thanks,

Bob H.

Re:What board rev does everyone have?

I can't find a rev number anywhere on my board, but it should be an early one as I got it right when the contest started as one of the free boards. I have no trouble with it as shipped and have been able to download "Hello World", the original app and my own code that is getting fairly functional. I see a label on the back with 01169 which I guess is a serial number.

I do, however, find that the display can flake out or even not work at all if I have it laying on something conductive (like the anti-static bag it came in). Are you working on a conductive surface?

Re:What board rev does everyone have?

Not working on a conductive surface. I have the board suspended with working hands, holding only the extreme edges. The proper grounding in place for the anti-static mat and the wrist band.

By the way, my serial number is 00255. I found the rev number (1.00) on the circular dot that sealed the pouch closed in which the board sat.

I did receive an email earlier from Luminary Micro describing an occassional issue with the OLED that might be addressed with a bit of hand soldering. I will have to see when I can break free a little more time to see if I can work this through.

I had set aside this past weekend to integrate the hardware with the Evaluation Board, which would leave the remaining time to put the prototype through some testing. I'm going to have to start stealing some time from Peter to pay Paul.

Grrr....

Re:What board rev does everyone have?

My eval kit did not have a sealing dot on the board, only the CD. I tore that off and tossed it so I don't know what it said.

Otherwise, my board is working fine. But the board is very sensitive to even high impedance shorts on the traces. I guess the OLED is still a very high impedance device and even a small drain of current can corrupt it. When I touch some of the leads, it does fail in very odd ways. It looks like the the pixels get scattered and it can blank out entirely.

Re:What board rev does everyone have?

All of the boards are the same revision. The 1.00, 1.01, etc revisions are for the software and documentation CD.

There were some production issues with the first 500 boards produced where the OLED displays may have had some marginal solder joints. You should be able to tell if your board falls into that group by looking at the serial number on the back. We've found that lifting the display slightly and running a soldering iron over the leads has helped fix the problem for many people.
