IAR Systems supports Luminary Micro's expanded range of Stellaris microcontrollers featuring USB
Two new Stellaris USB-enabled evaluation kits from Luminary Micro feature 32kB code sized limited IAR Systems tools included
Embedded Systems Conference, San José, California - April 15, 2008 - Embedded Systems Conference, San José, California-IAR Systems has announced that IAR Embedded Workbench® for ARM® now features full support for the new USB-enabled additions to Luminary Micro's award-winning ARM Cortex-M3-based Stellaris® microcontroller family, also announced today. At the same time Luminary Micro has announced two new evaluation kits, both featuring a free code size limited KickStart Edition of IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM.
The new Stellaris microcontroller series add USB 2.0 full speed capabilities to the communication possibilities already available in the family. USB On-The-Go (OTG) and USB Host/Device support are introduced in the LM3S3000 and LM3S5000 series. "We are happy to support the continued expansion of the world's first ARM Cortex-M3 based microcontroller family", said Mats Ullström, Product Director at IAR Systems. "Demand for USB enabled devices is very high and continues to grow, just as the demand for ARM Cortex-M3 does, so no doubt will the new Stellaris devices be of highest interest for a large community of developers."
The two new Luminary Micro new evaluation kits, product types EKI-LM3S3748 and EKI-LM3S3768, both include IAR Systems software tools, making it possible to evaluate the new devices thoroughly and to utilise the USB functionality in a meaningful way. The EKI-LM3S3748 Evaluation Kit targets USB Host/Device applications while the EKI-LM3S3768 targets USB OTG applications.
"The generous 32kB code size limit in the free KickStart Edition of IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM allows users to experience the unique capabilities and performance of our Stellaris family", said Luminary Micro Chief Marketing Officer Jean Anne Booth. "Providing Stellaris evaluation kits with IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM is part of our commitment to meeting our customers' needs for powerful and easy-to-use development tools."
Both kits can be connected to a PC and debugged using the onboard USB debug connection. It is also possible to use an external IAR J-Link JTAG probe for downloading and debugging code on the target, which allows faster downloading and gives a more rapid response when debugging, thus providing a better flow for the developer.
IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM, is a set of highly sophisticated and easy-to-use development tools-C/C++ compiler, assembler, linker, librarian, text editor, project manager, and debugger-combined in an integrated development environment (IDE) for programming embedded applications. With its built-in chip-specific code optimizer, IAR Embedded Workbench generates very efficient and reliable flash/PROMable code for ARM Cortex-M3 devices.
