ARM® Cortex™ Microcontroller Software Interface Standard (CMSIS)

Luminary Micro, with the Stellaris family of ARM Cortex-M3-based microcontrollers (MCUs), supports ARM’s Cortex Microcontroller Software Interface Standard (CMSIS), a standardized hardware abstraction layer for the Cortex-M processor series. The purpose of the CMSIS initiative is precisely the same as Luminary Micro’s purpose when creating the Stellaris family of ARM Cortex-M3-based microcontrollers: to standardize a fragmented industry on one superior hardware and software microcontroller architecture.

The CMSIS enables consistent and simple software interfaces to the processor for silicon vendors and middleware providers, simplifying software re-use, reducing the learning curve for new microcontroller developers and reducing the time to market for new devices.

For Luminary Micro's implementation of CMSIS on Stellaris MCUs, as well as the latest versions of our Driver Library, user guides, application note code samples, utilities, and other downloads, see our Software Updates page (see CMSIS under the "Misc" tab).
